Well, it is that time of the year, where we review the year gone by and start to make plans for the upcoming festive season and new year. What a year 2017 has been for us, 12 months of travel and fun with a little bit of blogging thrown in for good measure.
It has been great to have you along for the ride and we hope you have a safe, fun and peaceful festive season.
We started the year with a bang in The Maldives before moving through Iran into Europe. You can check out all our destinations in our previous reviews, at 6 months here and 9 months here.
The last quarter of our year of travel has been a bit less hectic than the previous three months. We returned to slow travel in October and November before starting the long journey toward Australia and the daunting return to normal life.
If you have been following our travels on social media you will know that we have been lucky little traveller’s. If you haven’t been following along now is your chance to head over to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter to catch up on all the action you have missed!
For those of you who have not been following along, here is a review of our travel destinations over the last 3 months.
October 2017
We started the last quarter of the year heading south to escape the autumnal cooling in Europe and spent a peaceful and relaxing month in the French Provence-Alpes-CoteD’Azur region in the small city of L’Isle Sur La Sorgue.
We are unashamedly Francophiles and spent our month enjoying the early autumn sun by taking long walks, shopping in markets and well, eating. There was of course, the odd long lunch or dinner with a wine and Cath got to fulfil a long held dream, to complete a cooking course in Provence.
November 2017
As the year came closer to ending, so we headed further south, to find more sun and warmth. We Aussies don’t really deal very well with the cold, as you will well know.
We spent November in Greece, where we had a quick stop over in Athens before heading to the island of Ikaria. Ikaria, the fabled landing place of Icarus, is a quiet, sleepy island in late autumn and we relaxed whilst planning our next travels.
December 2017
In December we returned to touring, in part to break up the long flight home to Australia and in part to have a final fling before our year of fun ends.
It makes good sense to us to break up the long flight from Europe to Australia with a stop over in Asia. We have previously briefly stopped over in Singapore but this time we planned a brief stop in Thailand before 3 weeks of touring in Vietnam.
