Where have we been in 2017?
We decided in early 2016 that we would spend 2017 travelling, mostly in Europe with a little bit of Asia, the Middle East and Africa thrown in “because they are there” or “because it’s on the way”. So we are over the 6 month mark, we left home on the 28th of December 2016 and it’s time for a bit of a review of where we have been. The review of what we have learnt, loved and would do differently will have to wait a bit longer. There is still so much to see and do.
To be honest we are a bit blown out by how many places we have managed to clock up.
We have tried to travel in a slowish way and hopefully we are achieving our goal of “living like the locals”.
What does slow travelling mean to us? In most destinations in means a week but definitely not less than 3 days and in some destinations it means a month to really soak up the culture, give ourselves some time to breathe and enjoy the culture fully.
You can read more about how we have travelled in our Traveller’s Tales and find out more about the destinations where we have stayed in our Destination Guides.
We will continue to publish our Travel Tales of our time in each of these destinations, as well as Destination Guides for you to find information quickly. We are working to get all our blogs from the last 6 months published, so keep on eye on this page for updates.
We still have 6 months (at least) to go, keep an eye on the blog and follow us on social media to see where we are and what we are up to.

Thanks Cindy.
Wow! You are a true traveler! You love exploring places don’t you?
I think you should add India as your next frontier!
Hi Ambuj, thanks for your comment. We do love to travel and learn about new places and we have been lucky to have the year to do it. India is most certainly on our to do list. Probably not this year as it is rapidly ending but in the future certainly. Where is your next adventure? Happy Travels
Oh my God, you’re living the dream! I only know 4 countries on your list, but I want so bad have the opportunity to know the other ones! Do you have a favourite destination? The one I just need to prioritise and go asap?
Enjoy your next 6 months!
Hi Danielley, thank you for your comments, we most certainly are living the dream and feel like the luckiest couple in the world. It is a really hard question to pick your favourite destination, we are now categorising it based on where we would go back and where would we not? For a priority I would say Prague, it is amazingly beautiful and relatively inexpensive, The Maldives because Global Warming and Tuscany because it’s Tuscany and everything you read is true. I hope you can follow along as we get more articles on line about our last 6 months and the coming ones too. Happy Travels
That’s amazing, you two! I’ll be in Prague and Budapest this summer (3 days each). Any pointers?
Hi Theresa, Thank you for your comment. We have had an amazing 6 months, it is not until you look back that you realise how much we have seen, learnt and experienced. Prague, oh it is so beautiful and friendly. We would highly recommend a food tour with Eat Like Locals- it is not cheap but you may not need to eat for a day or two afterwards, it is a walking tour of the city and the hosts also give a bit of history and human interest information. Public transport is easy in both cities and they are also both easy to walk in. Budapest was a bit quiet in winter but I would highly recommend the Pouder Ruin Pub for a drink and snack and a day of pampering at the Gellert Thermal Bath and Spa. You have inspired to write up both these cities soon. Happy and Safe Travels
